Reed Professional Services are currently in search of a Lead Data Engineer with a strong background in GCP (Google Cloud Platform) to join one of our large UK based media clients on a 6-month initial contract. The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in managing configuration and documentation tasks, ensuring service delivery aligns with planned timelines and quality standards. This position is key to enhancing the company’s streaming platform through the improvement of data structures and pipelines.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Lead the engineering team in building and maintaining robust data pipelines and processing services.
• Work in tandem with product management teams to define data requirements and devise appropriate solutions.
• Ensure the integrity and functionality of existing data pipelines are upheld.
• Advocate for and execute service upgrades in accordance with new GCP feature releases.
• Design and construct services with an emphasis on commonality and scalability.
• Adapt tracking specifications to meet the evolving needs of product and feature teams.
• Offer 24/7 on-call support for critical issues and extended office hours support for less urgent matters.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Comprehensive knowledge of GCP, including its capabilities and a range of services.
• Experience in a Scrum environment and proficiency with tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Skilled in technologies such as Dataflow, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Compute, Memorystore/Redis, and Kafka.
• Programming expertise in Java, Python, and Terraform.
• A proven history of leading engineering teams in the development of data collection and processing services.
• Capability to manage service upgrades and tracking specifications with precision.
