Deployment and Selection For EU Exit preparations

Given the fast-paced nature of business, we are often required to deploy highly specialised teams to clients within very short timeframes.

Client stories

The Project

During the early part of the EU Exit preparations, RPS was asked to respond to an urgent need within a Central Government department to address project and portfolio management expertise across 18 differing programmes within a 4-6 week window.

The Approach

The challenge was to identify the support needed, determine the best consultants for deployment,
and deploy selected teams, all within the 4-6 week window. The skills required were varied, including Programme and Project Managers, PMO and Project Support, and Business and Technical Architecture.

The selection process begins with the appointment of an RPS Delivery Management team comprising of Partners and senior Director level consultants, which engages, unpaid, with client stakeholders to get a full understanding of the role requirements.

Two Partners and several senior Director level consultants rapidly interfaced with department stakeholders at the Director General and Deputy Director level to quickly create an overview of the project landscape. With department needs identified, the RPS Resource Team – which comprises dedicated Talent Analysts based in our central London offices
– reviewed all requirements and recommended the highest value teams possible.

The Outcome

The short-listed CVs were passed to the Delivery and Resource team manager, who reviewed and selected candidates for formal interview. Face-to-face interviews were carried out to ascertain and validate the candidates’ experience and skills before recommending them for engagement.

Work with the department began in December 2017, and continues through today. RPS has so far successfully delivered 37 projects, and is providing key services and resources for delivery of a further 43 projects related to EU-Exit activity.

Key to our past and future success was the set up and resourcing of a central PMO function. This has helped ensure that all EU-Exit related projects are managed against key requirements and targets, and has the added benefit of providing a Central Government stakeholders with a senior point of contact on site who is responsible for ensuring high-quality delivery across all projects
and programmes.
